My Story

While living in Ecuador in my early 20’s and working with the United Nations, one afternoon when momentum in the country was building towards a coup d’etat I defied the UN’s stay-at-home order and ventured out to observe the protests in the streets. Indigenous and other people who recognized the government’s injustice, were demanding change. They showed their strength in the streets, linking arms and banging pots and pans.

I spent the afternoon near the protests, standing in solidarity with and capturing on film the raw humanity and strength of the united, peaceful protesters. The power of thousands of people leveraging their individual strength, to bolster a common cause, was striking.

It took courage for me to be there, but it took much more courage for the protesters to be there, braving the tear gas and the intimidating forces that were defending the presidency.

This experience inspired me and helped propel me into a decade of work with the United Nations Refugee Agency and other humanitarian organizations. I ultimately shifted out of this career, for a very important relationship, and moved to Colorado.

My experience 17 years ago at these protests resounds in my work today as a leadership and executive coach. I stand in solidarity with my clients, in bravery, and in courage. I seek to learn, to understand, and to support you to achieve the change and growth that is important to you.
